Props

Prop List:

    • Paper Bin : This was used as a makeshift table for the group so they could play cards.

    • Playing Cards: These are used as a way to distract the group but also as a plot device to show the character's different thoughts and feelings about the mysterious dissaperance of society.

    • Envelope Opener: Tilt dosen't rememeber how she accquired the item and it is immediatly seen as a form of protection by the  rest of the group.

    • Tooth Picks: The group uses the tooth picks as a substitute for money.

    • News Script: The script is used at the beginning of the film to show that there has been a change in society and introduce the audience to thestoryline.

    • Table(s): These are used by the newsreader to report to her audience about the impending breakdown of society.

    • Book: Briefly picked up by Tilt in the beginning of the film as a form of revision.

    • Mobile Phone: Tilt uses this to communicate with her mum on the phone and is how she finds out that something strange is happening to the world.

To ensure that Full House captured the themes of survival and isolation correctly it was important that we used props that could be used as makeshift substitutes for normal household objects/furniture. For example, the Paper Bin was used as a table for the group to play cards on renforcing the idea that they have lost their homes and are attempting to obtain a sense of normality by recreating a familiar setting. To further imply the breakdown of society, we decided that the characters in the poker scene would be waging bets on tooth picks instead of money or poker chips as a way to show that they have nothing left to fight for and are playing simply to kill their boredom. The playing cards are the only typical prop associated with poker in the scene which helps to solidify that there is still some hope left that there can be a return to pre-disaster life.

    The Poker Scene.
We decided that an envelope opener would be a unique choice of weapon for Tilt as it goes against the stereotypical thriller iconography of a knife but is still sharp enough to be used lethally and small enough to be concealed. The sequence in the field contrasts against the opening of the newsreport and phone call as it involves props that are usually seen in day to day life like tables, television, mobile phones and books. All of these are symbols of the 21st century and highlight evolution and advancement in our world, thus reflecting how far humans have come but also their reliance on technology, making their upcoming struggle much more sympathetic for the viewing audience.

Technology contrasts against the makeshift appliances used by the group.
